Dr. Abdul Kader Alabdullah
Dr Abdul Kader Alabdullah is a plant scientist with over 25 years of experience in plant genetics, molecular biology, virology, and bioinformatics. He is currently a Senior Scientist at the John Innes Centre (UK), where he leads data coordination for the Delivering Sustainable Wheat (DSW) programme, a collaboration involving 10 UK universities and research institutes, alongside 7 commercial breeding companies. His research centres on understanding the genetic regulation of key wheat agronomic traits (yield, fertility, meiosis), and their adaptation to climate change.
Dr Alabdullah holds a PhD in Plant Protection from the University of Bari (Italy) and an MSc in Integrated Pest Management from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, where his research focused on olive virology. Following his doctoral studies, he returned to Syria to join the University of Aleppo (Syria) as a lecturer in virology and biotechnology. Since 2015, he has contributed to high-profile wheat genetics projects at the John Innes Centre, resulting in multiple publications in leading scientific journals. He brings deep expertise in high-throughput sequencing, quantitative genetics, GWAS, and advanced statistical and bioinformatics analyses. Dr Alabdullah is passionate about translating fundamental plant science into applied solutions for global crop improvement and food security.
